1972: Creation of Slycma for the manufacturing of swing doors

The RUGET family, an industrial subcontractor entrepreneur from Lyon in sheet metal, creates this autonomous subsidiary to meet the needs of the French building industry, where elevator doors for apartment buildings are highly demanded.
Slycma is responsible for design, assembly, and marketing. It outsources sheet metal supply to the parent company.

The 1980s: Slycma innovates, designs, and tests its automatic doors

Throughout the 1980s, Slycma focused on designing and marketing high-performance automatic elevator doors, perfectly meeting evolving market needs. The first contracts with major clients were signed.
It was the first company to subject its doors to tests of several million operations before market release, through external laboratories.

The 1990s: Slycma takes a decisive turn

Passenger and technician safety started to become a concern for public authorities. France enacted a decree in 1992 making it mandatory to add a door on all cabins carrying passengers.
It was at this time that the first modernizations began. Slycma started offering adapted landing and cabin doors designed to work with existing equipment. This approach allowed clients to perform partial modernization, optimizing costs and time. These renovation solutions were very successful. Known for providing tailor-made models, Slycma quickly became the preferred supplier for clients seeking 'five-legged sheep.'

The 2000s: Slycma becomes a full-fledged industrial company

The publication of the 'Urbanism and Housing' law and its application decrees encouraged Slycma to diversify its activities by developing safety components specifically designed to meet door requirements.
In the 2000s, Slycma became a major industrial player by acquiring efficient management tools and robust manufacturing processes. These investments helped it navigate periods of strong growth related to the law’s application, but also resist the subsequent downturn. The new equipment and modernization markets collapsed, with only repair activities holding steady. Faced with this, Slycma relied on its ability to produce custom and single-unit doors to survive.

The 2010s: Slycma’s renewal

During this decade, Slycma underwent major changes, completely redesigning its door range to meet market price and dimension requirements while keeping its strengths: customization, small-series industrial production, and adaptability to existing equipment. The company also invested in internal production tools to offer more flexibility and responsiveness.
In 2016, Slycma left the RUGET group to join SODIMAS, a French elevator leader. During this period, it transformed its range to comply with European standards EN 81-20/50 and opened up to international markets with contracts in Gulf countries.

The 2020s: Slycma’s rise

In 2021, Slycma continued its growth and moved into its new production site, which also houses its headquarters in Brignais.
Throughout the 2020s, Slycma continued to rise, building its new production site and headquarters in Brignais. A strategic investment to support growth. The company created a modern showroom to provide customers with a concrete presentation of its products and innovations. Meanwhile, Slycma expanded internationally, strengthening its presence in new markets. The company also emphasized innovation, developing new products dedicated to accessibility and modernization, meeting sector needs and evolving standards. In 2022, Slycma celebrated its 50th anniversary, a major milestone shared with customers and employees, marking an important step in its history and commitment to excellence.
